Review Ulefone S8 Pro: Cheap Dual Camera phone - price, specs, comparison with Ulefone S8

Ulefone is a Chinese manufacturer, which produces mainly the ultra-budget smartphones up to $ 100. It is trying to follow the latest trends and implement them on smartphone for $70-90. It’s not difficult to guess that not everything is going well for them.

Also, Chinese companies have chosen a new goal – a series of Samsung Galaxy S8. There have never been so many copies of one model. What is the reason? It’s very simple, it’s all about design. Bezel-less smartphone buyers are crazy: they do not care about hardware, they only need bezel-less design.

Ulefone S8 Pro is also bezel-less or frameless smartphone. In truth, the manufacturer does not particularly focus on bezel-less design, but on the promo photos of Ulefone S8 Pro, its bezels are narrowed as much as possible. In this article we review new smartphone Ulefon S8 Pro, compare it with the basic version, as well as with similar devices in the market. Let’s start!

From the name of the smartphone is not difficult to guess that new smartphone Ulefone S8 Pro is improved version of Ulefon S8. Above you can see a comparative table of specifications of these two smartphone – the differences are very noticeable.

Ulefone S8 is a zombie smartphone. All of its specifications are absolutely dead for the market: it does not support 4G, it has weak performance. Ulefone S8 Pro is a slightly different story. It is also not the best smartphone, but you can work with it. First, let’s look at Ulefone S8 Pro package.

Ulefone S8 Pro Packaging

The box is made of black plastic, and it shows the contours of the smartphone. Package content is quite rich: USB with power supply, a protective sticker on the glass, a transparent silicone case and user manual. The smartphone itself is packed in a box neatly.

Ulefone S8 Pro Design

The smartphone for the most part consists of matte plastic, however, the manufacturer did not forget about metal. You can find it on the ends of the smartphone – this adds density to the design. Ulefone S8 Pro itself is quite weighty and plump smartphone: weight – 182 grams, thickness – 9.2 mm.

The rear plastic cover is removed. If we talk about the elements of the case, then they are all in the usual places: the fingerprint reader is located under the dual rear camera, the volume and power keys on the right end. The main camera protrudes from the back cover, which means it will be easy enough to scratch it. The fingerprint reader is recessed into the case, it is easy, however its area is very small, so it does not always adequately work out the touch. The scanner itself can memorize up to 5 fingerprints.  From the design let’s move on to hardware.

Ulefone S8 Pro Display

New Ulefone smartphone comes with IPS matrix. The manufacturer uses In-cell Full Lamination technology, which increases the sharpness and contrast of the picture. The display itself is small – 5.3 inches, the resolution is HD. If you pay close attention to the display, you can see the individual pixels, but during normal use of the smartphone with the picture everything is fine.

Ulefone S8 Pro Performance

Now we’ll talk about the sad part – about the hardware of Ulefone S8 Pro. Yes, the hero of today’s review is twice as powerful as its basic model Ulefon S8, but it is still very weak compared to other devices on the market. In fact, we’re dealing with a crappy quad-core Mediatek MTK 6737 processor, which is suitable for solving only the most basic tasks. The maximum frequency of each core is 1.5 GHz. For the graphic component is also not the most top-end solution – ARM Mali T720 MP2.

As for synthetic tests, then Ulefone S8 Pro shows itself not at all the best way – 25000 scores in Antutu. But now we are talking about the digital drawbacks of the processor, but it also has design problems – it gets very hot (up to 50 degrees), and is subject to trotting (performance sagging with a long chip load). Also worth noting is that Ulefone S8 Pro does not support GLONASS satellite system.

As for the memory, smartphone is equipped with 2 GB RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage. Naturally, it is possible to expand it with a memory card.

Camera

Ulefone S8 Pro cameras are also quite modest. The main module: 8-megapixel (with autofocus and aperture f/2.2), whose resolution is increased to 13MP, due to interpolation, an additional sensor – 5MP, telescopic (determines the focal length to the object and blurs the background effect of the bokeh).

The front camera without features – 5MP. There is a flash, which should please the lovers of selfie. If the camera is standard, then the camera app is terrible. You can find here Chinese characters.

Battery

Ulefone S8 Pro comes with 3000 mAh. The battery is removable, there is no quick charge function. You can expect about one working day.

Ulefone S8 Pro Conclusion

Ulefone S8 Pro is an impersonal smartphone. Of course, it has its advantages. The price Ulefon S8 Pro really attractive – $80. But no one can guarantee you that the smartphone will work stably. There are no service centers, no support, no updates – nothing. It’s just a plastic phone for every day with the ability to access the Internet. Ulefone S8 Pro is a smartphone for a very undemanding user. As in any way, and some conclusions about Ulefone S8 Pro we should do, so below you can read the main pros and cons of this gadget.

Ulefone S8 Pro advantages:

  • Metal frame
  • Protective silicone case included
  • Low price
  • Android OS 7.0 Nougat

Ulefone S8 Pro disadvantages:

  • Weak hardware
  • Thickness 9.2 mm
  • Bad translation of the software (Chinese)
  • There is no support for GLONASS satellite system

Alternatives

As an alternative, we chose smartphones based on the same processor and similar display resolution. We also paid attention to the price of devices. And so we selected three main competitors for Ulefone S8 Pro:

Umidigi Crystal – presented in June 2017. It costs only $10 more, but it is much more interesting than the hero of our review. Its main advantages are: a 5.5 inch Full HD display, 13-megapixel Samsung camera with f/2.0 aperture + 8-megapixel secondary module, a more premium design (similar to Xiaomi Mi Mix).

Bluboo Dual – almost complete copy of Ulefone S8 Pro. There are only two differences: the screen is 5.5 inch Full HD, and 13 MP camera from Sony without interpolation. In all other respects, gadgets are similar. Even in the price of $82.

Doogee Mix Lite – $80 and absolutely the same technical specifications as Ulefone S8 Pro. There is only one significant difference between gadgets: Doogee very much screams that their smartphone is deprived of frames around the display, but this, most likely, lies.
