Amazfit X First REVIEW: This Is Not A Smartwatch!

Finally, the new smartwatch (or is it a fitness bracelet?) has been officially introduced, and it is available for sale. To be precise, the new device from Amazit is available for pre-order on Indiegogo, while the first shipments will not start until August 2020.

I will call this device a smartwatch despite the design of the bracelet, because the manufacturer calls it a smartwatch.

There have been rumors about Amazfit X for a very long time. Back in August 2019, we learned about the beginning of development of this smartwatch. As you can see, the release of the new device has been delayed, but now we know everything about the new smartwatch, including the design, functions, specifications, price and date of release.

Curved Design

The main feature of Amazfit X is curved display at 92 degrees. According to the manufacturer, the curved design provides maximum comfort during constant use of the watch.

It should be noted that not only the display is curved, but also internal parts such as battery, processor and others.

Another advantage of the curved design is a more accurate measurement of heart rate compared to flat bracelets and smartwatches. Thanks to its curved design, Amazfit X smartwatch sits tightly on your hand, so the heart rate sensor works with maximum precision.

Of course, I quote the manufacturer’s words. Smartwatch is not yet available, so we can’t know for sure whether it’s true or not. But that sounds logical, doesn’t it?

AMOLED display

As for the display, it has a diagonal of 2.07-inches. It is an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 206 x 640 pixels. The density of pixels is 326PPI and the brightness is 400 NIT.

On official images and videos, Amazfit X screen looks very good. AMOLED panel should have no problems outside and in direct sunlight. You will see the screen well in all conditions.

It is also worth noting that Amazfit X has no physical buttons. Smartwatch has a touch screen.

At the same time, the new smartwatch is protected from water by 5 ATM standard.

On the back side of the device is a heart rate sensor and magnetic contacts for charging. It looks like the straps are removable. This is good news because it will be possible to use extra straps in different colors and materials.

Functions

As for main functions, they are not much different from the fitness bracelet Xiaomi Mi Band 4.

As I said before, the new Amazfit X smartwatch has BioTracker PPG heart rate sensor and sleep tracking function, 9 sports modes including swimming, and blood oxygen monitor.

Among the new functions, there is a stress level monitor. The smartwatch determines the stress levels: Relaxed, Normal, Medium and High.

Unlike the fitness bracelet Xiaomi Mi Band 4, the new smartwatch Amazfit X has GPS + Glonass to track the location.

Another feature of Amazfit X is its customizable watch faces. Besides the pre-installed watch faces, the smartwatch has over 40 widgets that you can use on the home screen. For example, you can set the widget for steps, heart rate, battery level and more. Similar widgets are available on Amazfit GTS.

Battery Life

The battery life of Amazfit X on one charge is 7 days in normal use.

However, if you actively use GPS every day, receive many notifications and frequently use other functions, the battery life can be reduced to several days. Conversely, if you don’t turn on your GPS and don’t use the functions often, the watch may run for even more than 7 days.

Amazfit X is not a smartwatch!

To be honest, I don’t quite agree that Amazfit X is a smartwatch. In fact, it’s a fitness bracelet like Xiaomi Mi Band 4.

Yes, Amazfit X has GPS, heart rate sensor, blood oxygen measurement function, sports modes, and various widgets on the watch face.

However, the device does not have SIM support, Wi-Fi, and a built-in speaker and microphone. I think that a real smartwatch should support phone calls.

For example, you can make and receive calls on Xiaomi Mi Watch. You can even install third-party apps on Xiaomi Smartwatch. Amazfit X cannot do any of that.

Release Date and Buy Amazfit X

As I said, Amazfit X will only be available in August 2020. But you can pre-order it now on Indiegogo.

The price of Amazfit X is $149. As for me, it is a high price for a fitness bracelet. Yes, the new Amazfit has a stunning curved design and display, but it lacks some functions of a real smartwatch, which I mentioned above.
