Honor 10 REVIEW: It Can Be a Flagship Phone, but It Is Not!

Today we are going to talk about latest smartphones from Honor brand called Honor 10. It is an attractive phone with elegant design. The specifications are flagship, but the price is not. It sounds very interesting, do you agree? Let’s make full review of Honor 10.

Unboxing

We want to start with unboxing. New phone comes in a standard box. There is 10 on the front panel, which means Honor 10.

Inside the box you can find a smartphone, USB Type-C cable,  SuperCharge adapter and protective case. I think this is enough for modern smartphone. A good bonus is silicone case.

Honor 10: Display

Honor 10 comes with trend design of 2018 and FullView Display 2.0 with a long screen.

It has LTPS IPS screen with diagonal of 5.84 inches and FHD+ resolution. The screen edges are very thin. The phone is not large, despite the big size of the screen.

You can notice a notch, which hides the sensors, earpiece and front camera. Today there are many Chinese phones with notches, like iPhone X.

Also I want to note about LED notification above the screen. Its position is a little weird. It is on the left side of the front camera.

Honor 10: Design

This model comes with a fingerprint reader under the Home button. It is very easy to use. The button can not be pressed down, because the fingerprint sensor is under the screen. You can only touch and then have a small vibration to know. I think it is much better than back fingerprint reader, because you can unlock the phone when it is on table.

Looking on the glass back panel, I say that Honor 10 has amazing color combination – Phantom Blue. If you look on it from left to right, you will see a beautiful reflection.

The back cover uses a 3D glass material curved into the body to look elegant and with a very shiny color. The bottom area is clear because there is no fingerprint sensor or something else.

The camera is located in the upper left corner with the flash beside. By the way, the camera is compatible with AI.

The physical buttons are located on the right side.

The SIM slot is on the left side. It is dual SIM card slot, and you cannot insert microSD memory card. In other words, it is not hybrid slot.

3.5 mm headphone jack is at the bottom, next to the USB Type-C connection port and main speaker.

In general, the design of Honor 10 corresponds to flagship segment. It is made from high-quality materials, and the phone looks fantastic. Also, it is very comfortable to hold in one hand.

Honor 10: Software

The operating system is Android 8.1 Oreo covered with EMUI 8.1 as well. The overall operation is managed by AI, the system is managed quickly and smoothly offline.

Some words about security. The smartphone is equipped with front fingerprint reader. It is very easy to use. Many people prefer front position instead of back. In addition to using the fingerprint reader, you can use Home button to control the smartphone. It fully replaces On Screen Buttons.

Also there is available face unlock. It works as fast as possible.

For those who have problems with notch above the display, there is an option to disable it. You can go to Settings> Display> Notch and select Hide Notch. However, you should note that the screen is IPS, so the black display may not be completely black.

Do you like to watch movies or listen to music on smartphone? Don’t worry about videos on YouTube, because you can hide black bards on right and left sides.

The smartphone has very good speaker. Moreover, there is 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can listen to music via your favorite headphones.

Honor 10: Games

As for the games on Honor 10, you will not have any problems. Even the most heavy games run fast and smoothly. The game we are testing are ROV and PUBG. Perhaps, they are the most demanding Android games for today.

When you play ROV on Honor 10, you can choose the maximum graphics settings. The frame rate in the game is smooth – about 40-50fps, but sometimes it falls to about 30-35fps.

As for PUBG on Honor 10, I don’t know what to say. Everything is fine! You can comfortable play this game on new phone even on high graphics settings.

Honor 10: Camera

The main highlight of Honor 10 camera is AI ​​system. The camera chooses from 22 different scene modes to make the photo the best.

The rear camera provides a lot of features. There is 16-megapixel RGB color f/1.8 main sensor and 24-magapixel black and white monochrome f/1.8 secondary sensor. We should note that it is not from LEICA .

The rear camera has blur or Portrait mode. The camera UI looks the same as other Honor phones.

There are also other modes, such as Light Painting mode, Monochrome, etc. It’s pity, but Night Mode is not available on this model.

Honor 10: Sample Photos

Sample photos from Auto (AI Enhanced) mode look pretty good. AI system makes a great job. The colors are good, and there are many details.

Also you can use blur mode. By the way, you can change the blur level after taking photo. It is very interesting feature.

Also there is available portrait mode with 3D Lighting feature. You can zoom in a little more, thanks to Hybrid Zoom.

Here is some sample photos from Portrait mode. Bokeh effect is very good. 3D Lighting Effect system makes the color of face is pretty smooth.

Although Honor 10 doesn’t have LEICA sensors, there is  Monochrom mode. Black-and-white mode is divided into 3 sub-modes: normal black-and-white, black-and-white and blurred.

Honor 10: Battery

Finally, let’s talk about battery. It has a capacity of 3400 mAh. This should be enough for full working day of battery life. If you play hard, you can expect about 6-7 hours of battery life. The smartphone support SuperCharge fast charging technology, so it charges really fast.

Honor 10: Price

Many people calls Honor 10 a flagship smartphone, but we cannot say so. Yes, it looks beautiful, there is good display and powerful hardware. Also I want to note about high-quality cameras. However, it doesn’t have something unique. For example, Huawei P20 has amazing triple camera, and no one argues that it’s the flagship. But I have no feeling that Honor 10 is flagship, maybe because of its price – only $430. From other side, it easily competes with OnePlus 6, Asus Zenfone 5, and others.
