MSI P65 Creator 8RF First REVIEW: Great Laptop for Designers!

At the end of last year, MSI released a very interesting laptop called MSI P65 Creator 8RF. The manufacturer says that new laptop is designed for people of creative professions. You could guess this from the name of the laptop.

MSI P65 Creator 8RF has a very light body, an unusual design, a display with thin bezels and a powerful processor.

The dimensions of MSI P65 Creator 8RF are quite compact – 35.77 x 24.77 x 1.77 cm. The weight is only 1.8 kg. As you can see, the laptop can be carried with you in a bag or backpack, without suffering from pain. It is perfect when you use a single laptop at home, in the office or at college.

The laptop is made in matte white with gold lettering. The cover has a shield, inside which is a dragon. As you understand, this is MSI company logo.

By the way, we want to note that the laptop body is not left fingerprints, as it often happens with matte surfaces.

Let’s do one of the most important tests – open the laptop with one hand. Yes, it is possible! The lid opens very easily and smoothly.

The keyboard backlight is white and cannot be changed. The keyboard is very comfortable – it is securely fixed and does not bend under pressing. As you can see, the keyboard has an additional grille for air intake.

Now let’s look at the side faces, on which all ports and connectors are located. On the left is Kensington, LAN ports, two USB 3.0 and two 3.5 mm audio jacks. By the way, if you have not heard of Kensington, then this is a special connector to protect your laptop from being stolen. It reminds the lock on a bicycle. This is a very useful feature, given the price of new MSI laptop.

The right side of the laptop has Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI, USB 3.1 and mDP. You can see ventilation holes on the rear panel and side edges. They have a unique design, and look very attractive.

On the front edge is only a small battery status indicator.

If you use all the ports and connectors, you can connect three monitors at the same time. It becomes clear why MSI P65 Creator 8RF is designed for creative occupations.

There are three fairly tall legs on the bottom panel, thanks to which the laptop rises above the table. Half of the bottom panel is occupied by a large air vent for air intake, while the other half is a speaker grille.

One of the features of MSI P65 Creator 8RF laptop is that it opens on 180 degrees.

The laptop received IPS display with a diagonal of 15.6-inches. The screen has Full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080 pixels. The bezels around the display are very thin – only 4.9 mm. The aspect ratio is 16:9, and refresh rate – 144 Hz.

The display has a matte finish, so it does not create glare on a sunny day. The manufacturer promises 100% coverage of sRGB. The screen is really very bright, while the color rendition is natural and pleasant.

On the other hand, when working with graphics or animation, most likely you will connect external monitors. As we said, MSI P65 Creator 8RF laptop allows you to connect up to three monitors at the same time.

MSI P65 Creator 8RF: Performance

MSI P65 Creator 8RF laptop is powered by 8th generation processor Intel Core i7-8750H with a clock frequency from 2.2 GHz to 4.1 GHz. This is an excellent processor for multitasking and working with heavy apps. The basic model has 16GB of RAM, but you can expand it to 32 GB. Built-in memory is 512GB SSD.

The new laptop uses GeForce-GTX1070 (MAX-Q) graphics card, which was designed specifically for compact and thin laptops.

As for games, the laptop offers excellent performance for launching any game, even the newest one. On the other hand, while playing at the highest graphics settings, MSI P65 Creator 8RF laptop heats up quickly. The problem can be solved with additional accessories for cooling, or to play on the average graphic settings.

MSI P65 Creator 8RF runs on Windows 10 operating system. As usual, Wi-Fi 802.11 AC and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity are available.

If you are interested in sound, then the laptop is equipped with two double-sided built-in speakers. The sound quality is not bad – very good for watching videos.

Now let’s talk about the battery life of MSI laptop. The specifications say that new laptop has more than 8 hours battery life on a single charge. As you know, the battery life of any laptop depends on display brightness and program used.

For example, when the power saving mode is on and screen brightness is low, then you can have about 8-9 hours of battery life. But if you are processing photos or videos, the battery life will be halved.

MSI P65 Creator 8RF is equipped with 4730mAh battery. Full battery charge takes about 2.5 hours.
