Oukitel K12: Unboxing

We have already reviewed smartphones from Oukitel, and all of them have similar delivery box. As the rule, this is a square white box with company logo on the front side, and a sticker with main specifications on the back.

The box is square, because there are many accessories inside, such as silicone protective case, screen glass, user manual, SIM needle, USB Type-C cable, an adapter from USB Type-C to 3.5 mm audio jack and OTG adapter.

As you can see, the package contents is rich. Of course, different adapters are a forced step, for example, OUKITEL K12 does not have 3.5 mm audio jack, so you will need an adapter from USB Type-C to 3.5 mm audio jack. However, it is a good thing the manufacturer took care of it for us.

At first glance, you might think Oukitel K12 is a rugged smartphone. However, it is not waterproof and it does not have any protection standard. The phone is so thick and big because of the big battery inside.

Oukitel K12 REVIEW In-Depth & Unboxing: 10000mAh Battery & 30W Charging!

Oukitel K12 has 6.3-inches, but the dimensions are 160 x 74 x 15 mm. Yes, you have read it correctly – the thickness is 15 mm or 1.5 cm. The weight of smartphone is 288 grams. In short, this smartphone does not fit in your jeans pocket. You’re gonna have to wear it in your backpack, bag or jacket pocket as I did.

The body is rubberized, including corners, and there are metal inserts on the right and left sides. To be honest, I would think it was a rugged smartphone if I did not know its specifications. The design says it’s durable and reliable.

However, when you turn on Oukitel K12, you will realize that it is a smartphone from 2019. Like many other phones of this year, our hero has waterdrop notch above the display. It is so small and tiny, that I did not immediately notice it. The notch only hides a front camera. There is also earpiece above the notch, and LED notification light to the left.

I guess the main claim to this smartphone is Oukitel logo at the bottom of the screen. Do you remember how people complained about Samsung smartphones because all of them had Samsung logo on the front panel? A couple of years ago, Samsung took it away. Nevertheless, the Chinese manufacturer decided to place it. I doubt many people will like it.

The manufacturer says real panel is made of real leather. I cannot say for sure, but it looks very interesting. On the other hand, it’s not a new design, because it was already used in many other Oukitel phones, for example, Oukitel K7 Power.

There is a metal panel at the top with dual camera, flashlight and fingerprint reader.

The power key and volume rocker on the right side, while the hybrid slot for dual SIM/microSD on the left. There is only USB Type-C port and speaker on the bottom.

In conclusion, I’d like to say that this smartphone is probably not for everyone. It’s big and heavy. It is not very comfortable to hold in hands and carry in pocket.

However, if you are not afraid of the size, the design is quite attractive. It has modern waterdrop notch and leather back panel. As the manufacturer says, Oukitel K12 combines metal and leather. This is really true.

Oukitel K12: Display

Time to talk about the screen. I will not dwell on specifications in detail, but just tell you my opinion. Oukitel K12 has 6.3-inch display with Full HD+ resolution. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9. In addition, I want to note that it supports only 5 points multi touch. Most modern smartphones and tablets support 10 touches.

In general, Oukitel K12 display is bright and high detail. It is clearly visible outdoors and even in direct sunlight. The colors are natural, and viewing angles are good. Nothing more to add.

Oukitel K12: Hardware

Oukitel K12 REVIEW In-Depth & Unboxing: 10000mAh Battery & 30W Charging!

Let’s start with specifications, and then talk about real-life performance. Oukitel K12 is powered by MediaTek MT6765. This is octa-core chipset with maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. Another name of this processor is Helio P35.

The phone also has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

As you could understand, Oukitel K12 has a rather weak processor for its price. In fact, Helio P35 is a budget chipset, and it is used in mobile devices under $150. However, the price of Oukitel K12 is $240.

On the other hand, the Chinese manufacturer has added 6GB of RAM, and it provides good multitasking. You can open several apps, and the phone will be OK.

However, when I installed the apps, and scrolled Google Play Store, I noticed some braking. I do not think it is because of the weak internet connection, because my home Wi-Fi network is good. The same small lags are available when you are scrolling Instagram or Facebook.

If we talk about benchmarks or synthetics tests, then Oukitel K12 scores 88460 points in AnTuTu. That is a good result, but not the best. For example, $160 Redmi Note 7 has almost two times more – 145000 points in AnTuTu.

We also tested GeekBench 4, 3DMark, Wi-Fi, GPS and memory speed. You can see results on screenshots below.

As for games, the smartphone launches all popular games, such as PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9 and Shadowgun Legends. However, as I already said, you should expect low graphics and low FPS.

Oukitel K12: Software

Oukitel K12 REVIEW In-Depth & Unboxing: 10000mAh Battery & 30W Charging!

The good news – Oukitel K12 runs on Android 9.0 Pie. The bad news – this is not stock Android. I am not a fan customized user interfaces, especially from the Chinese manufacturers. Some icons are round, while others are square. This user interface does not have general idea.

However, I have found some useful apps, such as pedometer, system manager and toolbag. The pedometer is especially useful app, because it shows the steps even on locked screen. You do not need to open app every time to check the steps.

Oukitel K12 has fingerprint reader and face unlock. There is also Scan Code option in the settings menu. I often see DuraSpeed app in Chinese smartphones, but I do not know why I need it. Does it really increase performance? I did not notice the difference.

Oukitel K12: Camera

Oukitel K12 REVIEW In-Depth & Unboxing: 10000mAh Battery & 30W Charging!

The cameras of Oukitel K12 are average. There is dual camera on the back (16MP+2MP), but the second sensor is fake. Below you can see real sample photos with bokeh effect. This is not real bokeh effect, because you have to adjust it yourself – choose the size of the circle, the level of blur, etc.

The front camera is 8MP.

In general, photos quality in daytime is quite good. In addition, you can take decent images at night.

Oukitel K12: Battery

The main feature of Oukitel K12 is battery. I decided to talk about battery at the end of review so you would have a good opinion of the smartphone. Very clever plan, huh?

So, the phone has 10000mAh battery. It is a very big battery, and it offers a long battery life. I have posted a screenshot of battery test below. As you can see, the battery life is about 12 hours screen-on-time.

However, it is not even the only feature of battery. I think that 30W fast charging is the killer feature of Oukitel K12. Yes, perhaps you will not notice very fast charging, but do not about battery capacity. Two hours of charging is very fast for 10000mAh battery.

Conclusion

Oukitel K12 REVIEW In-Depth & Unboxing: 10000mAh Battery & 30W Charging!

Yes, Oukitel K12 is not for everyone, but it is definitely an interesting smartphone. Big size and weight can scare many people, but if you really need a big battery, then you need to be ready for a thick body. There is no such thing as a thin smartphone with 10000mAh battery.

You should also understand that this is not a gaming smartphone. Of course, you can run the heavy games and even play them, but the graphics will be low.

Otherwise, it is a good smartphone. The design is nice; the camera is good; the screen is bright and clear. Of course, the main feature of Oukitel K12 is battery, and if you want to forget about charging for at least 5 days, then this smartphone is for you.
