Samsung Galaxy M10, M20 and M30: New Budget Series To Complete with Xiaomi
Samsung is not doing very well right now. The manufacturer is not longer a leader on Chinese market. As you know, this is the main market for almost all companies. Nevertheless, Samsung tries to make major changes. In February 2019, we are waiting for flagship smartphone Galaxy S10 with completely bezel-less display, but not another copy of Galaxy S8.
However, Samsung is famous for not only flagships, but also mid-range and budget smartphones. The South Korean company decided to update the low-end devices, but instead of Galaxy J series, it will release phones from new Galaxy M series. We are waiting for Samsung Galaxy M10, M20 and M30.
New smartphones will surprise with design and hardware. We are used that Samsung budget phones are more expensive than Chinese devices, but not new Galaxy M10, M20 and M30. These smartphones should be under $200.
The smartphones are not officially released yet, but we know about them almost everything. So, here is the first review of Samsung Galaxy M10, M20 and M30.
Samsung Galaxy M10
The fact that Samsung is having the bad times is not a secret to anyone. But very soon the Korean brand can regain its former greatness. In coming weeks it will release full new and interesting flagships Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, as well as new low-end smartphones from new Galaxy M series.
The fact that the company has simplified Galaxy J series, which was one of the most successful, suggests that it believes in new Galaxy M series. The upcoming smartphones will have waterdrop notches for front cameras, powerful processors, good cameras and a nice design.
Samsung Galaxy M10: Design
Galaxy M10 is the most affordable smartphone in new series. However, it has the same bezel-less design, case materials or other advantages of more expensive models. The phone differs from Galaxy M20 and M30 only in hardware and dimensions, since it has the smallest screen of all. So, let’s start with display.
Samsung Galaxy M10 will have 6-inch display with a resolution of Full HD+. The dimensions are following: 75.8 mm width and 155.7 mm height. However, there are no real photos yet.
We can conclude that Samsung Galaxy M10 will have the thickest bezels among the other phones. How do we know this? It’s very simple – we already know dimensions and displays diagonal of all three phones. The next model Galaxy M20 will come with 6.15-inch display, while the width will be 74.5 mm and a height – 156.4 mm. Of course, the difference in diagonal and dimensions is small, but this is extra 1 mm to the bezels of Galaxy M10.
Samsung Galaxy M10: Performance
Yes, Galaxy M10 has new design, just like other representatives of the new series, but the hardware is pretty old. The smartphone will be powered by Exynos 7870 chipset from 2016. It is built on Cortex-A53 core with a frequency of up to 1.6 GHz. It has Mali-T830 graphics accelerator.
The processor is entry-level, and it scores about 54.000 points in AnTuTu. For comparison, Snapdragon 450 scores about 79.000 points, while Snapdragon 625 has 83.000 points in the same test AnTuTu. In addition, Snapdragon processors have better optimization for Android system. So, Snapdragon doubly wins here, which is not very good for Samsung Galaxy M10.
From other side, Exynos 7870 is an energy efficient chipset, and you can expect long battery life. Anyway, the smartphone is not for heavy games.
The memory is very much. There will be models with 3GB+16GB and 3GB+32GB. Frankly, 16GB is not enough in 2019, even in the budget phone. Fortunately, Galaxy M10 should have microSD slot.
Samsung Galaxy M10: Camera
The budget smartphone will have only single camera on the back panel. It is OK, because the second sensor on budget devices is only marketing trick. In practice, it doesn’t make any sense.
The rear camera will 13MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture, phase autofocus and electronic image stabilization. On the front there will be 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Samsung Galaxy M10: Battery
There is no information about NFC in Galaxy M10. Most likely, it will be missing. The battery capacity will be 3400mAh. Also, the phone will have USB 2.0 port, so you should not expect fast charging technology.
Samsung Galaxy M10: Release Date and Price
Samsung has officially announced the date of presentation of new smartphones from Galaxy M Series. The event will take place on January 28. It also says about the price. Galaxy M10 will cost about $140. Do you remember so cheap smartphones from Samsung? I personally do not.

Samsung Galaxy M10: Conclusion
As a result, Galaxy M10 will have a good and new design, the latest Android system, good display and attractive price. The hardware is pretty weak, the cameras are average, and battery is not very interesting.
Samsung Galaxy M20
If Galaxy M10 is a simple entry-level smartphone, then Galaxy M20 looks much more attractive. It received much better camera, battery and processor. As for design, there are no big differences between all models from Galaxy M series. However, the smartphone has thinner bezels around the screen and dual rear camera. Also, it is a little bigger, than Galaxy M10, because of increased screen diagonal from 6 to 6.15-inches.
Samsung Galaxy M20: Performance
Since Galaxy M20 has almost the same design as Galaxy M10, we move to the hardware. Instead of quad-core Exynos 7870, Galaxy M20 received quad-core Exynos 7885. Its main difference is not only Cortex-A53 energy-efficient cores, but also Cortex-A73 performance core. They are divided into two clusters. The high-performance two Cortex-A73 cores operate at a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz, while the energy-efficient cores Cortex-A53 accelerate to 1.6 GHz. The graphics is also changed – Mali-G71 MP2.
Galaxy M20 is basic configuration has 3GB of RAM LPDDR4 with a frequency of up to 1333 MHz. Also, there is version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. As a result, the smartphone has the same AnTuTu result, as Redmi Note 5 on Snapdragon 636. It is really good. Of course, we cannot say that both processors are equal and provide the same performance, because Snapdragon has better graphics, but Exynos is still good.
Samsung Galaxy M20: Camera
The main camera not only better, than Galaxy M10, but also received a secondary sensor for portrait photos. Samsung Galaxy M20 is equipped with 13MP CMOS BSI sensor with an aperture of f/1.9 + an additional 5MP sensor with f/2.2. Most likely, the smartphone will have electronic image stabilization.
The front camera also changed in Galaxy M20 – this is 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture.
Samsung Galaxy M20: Battery
Another important innovation is USB Type-C port, and battery capacity of 5000mAh. Finally, the big players are thinking about battery life. Most likely, a fast charging appeared in the smartphone, but there is no confirmed information about it.
However, there is also confirmed information about NFC in Galaxy M20.

- Price: from 215 dollars.
Samsung Galaxy M20: Release Date and Price
The device will be released along with Galaxy M10 at the end of January. The price will be around 215 dollars, while is very good. However, if you look at the competitors from Asus and Xiaomi, then Samsung has no chance of big popularity.
Samsung Galaxy M30
In fact, Galaxy M30 is a slightly improved model of Galaxy M20. The same processor, similar cameras, design and battery. The main difference is in display. New smartphone has IPS panel with 6.38-inch diagonal. The resolution is the same – Full HD+, because of the same chipset.
Samsung Galaxy M30: Performance
The Korean company decided to use the same chipset in Galaxy M20 and M30 models – Exynos 7885. However, the basic model of Galaxy M30 has 4GB of RAM. Of course, it doesn’t play a big role on performance. More importantly, there is 64GB of internal memory, instead of 32GB. If this is still not enough for you, the slot for memory cards have not disappeared anywhere.
Samsung Galaxy M30: Camera
The main camera is almost the same as Galaxy M20. We are talking about 13MP + 5MP with an aperture of f/1.7 and f/2.2, respectively. However, the company decided to add the third 5MP sensor. It is not entirely clear why we still need the third sensor with this resolution. After all, if there were 8MP sensor, we can think about double optical zoom or wide-angle photography. However, 5MP sensor cannot offer these functions.
Perhaps Samsung decided to do the dirty marketing. For many people the number of cameras is more important than the quality. So, we are skeptical about the triple camera of Galaxy M30. It is unreasonable and increase the price, without giving any advantages.
However, the front camera is really improved. Galaxy M30 will have 16MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Samsung Galaxy M30: Battery
5000mAh battery and USB Type-C are still here. The smartphone will have fast charging, but the generation is unknown. Most likely Quick Charge 3.0 or similar technology from Samsung with 18W.
Samsung Galaxy M30: Specifications
- Colors: black, blue, gold;

- Screen: 6.38-inches, IPS panel with LTPS technology, resolution 2280×1080, 19:9 aspect ratio, contrast ratio 1500: 1, brightness 450 nits, 85% of usable area;
- Processor: Exynos 7 Octa 7885, 14-nm, eight cores, 2xCortex-A73 up to 2.2 GHz + 6xCortex-A53 up to 1.6 GHz, 64-bit;

Samsung Galaxy M30: Release Date and Price
The smartphone will be announced along with Samsung M10 and M10 on January 28, 2019. The official price of the smartphone is still unknown, but we think about $260.
However, there are no major differences between Samsung Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30, so why overpay? Does anyone need a useless 5MP third sensor and extra 1GB of RAM? I think these things don’t worth $50. However, the choice is always yours.
