UMIDIGI One and One Pro First REVIEW: Comparison with Lenovo Z5 & Asus Zenfone 5

There are many Chinese brands, which are not develop new technologies, but improve existing ones. Of course, it is not bad, because we can buy really good smartphone with stunning specs and features for attractive price.

Yesterday UMIDIGI announced its new phones called UMIDIGI One and One Pro. Some features of these models have pleasantly surprised us. Let’s make first review of new phones, and find out their best features.
UMIDIGI One and One Pro: Design
UMIDIGI One and One Pro received a classic design for 2018. There is 5.9 inch display on the front panel with thin bezels. As you can see, new phones have a notch above the screens. It hides front camera, microphone and earpiece.
On the back panel we can see dual camera and flashlight in the upper left corner. The manufacturer’s logo and some information about the smartphone are located at the bottom.
But where is the fingerprint scanner? Here we came to the first feature of UMIDIGI One and One Pro. There models have fingerprint reader on the right side, just below the volume rocker. We think it is really useful feature.
On the lower edge are placed 3.5 mm audio jack for the headphones and USB Type-C port. The SIM slot has hybrid tray for MicroSD card and one Nano SIM or two NanoSIM cards.
Another interesting feature of new smartphones is their color options. These are unusual and stylish colors: Twilight Color and Carbon Fiber.
By the way, new devices are very comfortable to hold in one hand. They have following dimensions: 148.4 mm x 71.4 mm x 8.3 mm and weight 180 grams.
The package includes: the smartphone itself, protective film, silicone case, USB Type-C cable, power adapter, SIM needle and user’s manual.
UMIDIGI One and One Pro: Display
New smartphones received a large 5.9 inch display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The manufacturer says it occupies 90% of the front panel. However, UMIDIGI One and One Pro position themselves as compact devices. It is because their sizes are closer to 5.2 inch phones with 16:9 aspect ratio.
It is HD+ display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 and 287 PPI pixel density. Below the screen you can see standard touch buttons. The screen is bright and clear. The color rendition is close to natural.
UMIDIGI One and One Pro: Performance
UMIDIGI One and One Pro are powered by MediaTek Helio P23 chipset with 4 cores Cortex-A53L up to 2.0 GHz and 4 cores Cortex-A53, up to 1.5 GHz. Also, the smartphones have graphics processor ARM Mali G71 MP2 up to 700 MHz.
Here we come to the first difference between UMIDIGI One and One Pro – the memory. The base model received 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. UMIDIGI One Pro has 4 GB of RAM and 64 built-in memory. Both of them support microSD memory cards up to 256GB.
The manufacturer reports about stereo sound system with two speakers, but for now it is too early to talk about this, since we don’t have the smartphone in hands. There is Face Unlock function, and operating system Android 8.1 Oreo.
Also, the model UMIDIGI One Pro is equipped with NFC and Android Pay support for contactless payments. It is a useful feature, is not it?
UMIDIGI One and One Pro: Battery
Another difference between these phones is battery capacity. UMIDIGI One has received the battery of 3550mAh, while UMIDIGI One Pro has smaller 3250mAh battery.
Both models support fast charging technology, but with different power consumption: 10W for UMIDIGI One and 18W for UMIDIGI One Pro. Moreover, the Pro version supports 15W wireless charging.
UMIDIGI One and One Pro: Camera
UMIDIGI One and One Pro are equipped with dual main camera OmniVision OV12870 12MP + 5MP with aperture f/2.0 for depth effect or background blur.
The front camera should please selfie lovers, because there is 16MP S5K3P3 sensor with an aperture of F/2.0.
Comparison with Lenovo Z5 and Asus Zenfone 5
UMIDIGI One and One Pro have very good specifications, but they look like other phones on the market, for example, Lenovo Z5 and Asus Zenfone 5. Which phone is better from them?
All these smartphones have a very similar design. Almost bezel-less display with notch above the screen. As for the rear panel, the difference is only in the location of fingerprint scanner. UMIDIGI One and One Pro, as we already found out, it is on side. The aspect ratio of displays are also identical.
As for the cameras, in this category it is difficult to choose the best smartphone. After all, Lenovo Z5 has a dual camera of 16MP + 8MP. It seems better than Asus Zenfone 5 and UMIDIGI One and One Pro. However, new phones from UMIDIGI received better front camera with 16MP sensor.
As for Lenovo Z5 and Asus Zenfone 5, these phones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, while UMIDIGI One and One Pro have Helio P23 processors. All of them have 4 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, and only UMIDIGI One comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. These phones support fast charging technology.
Well, the most important category of any comparison is price. UMIDIGI is the winner, because its phones start from $170 (UMIDIGI One). As for UMIDIGI One Pro, it will cost from $200.
Lenovo Z5 smartphone can be purchased for $200 (6GB/64GB) and $280 (6GB/128GB). The most expensive device among these phones is ASUS ZenFone 5. It is sold at a price of $500.
