Two students from Russia arrested after the discovery on the campus in the British city of Newcastle “suspicious objects” resembling explosive devices.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 10 but it was announced only in the evening of the next day, as indicated by ITAR-TASS. Young people remain in custody, according to the British media, in particular The Daily Mail .
“Police arrested two 18-year-olds in connection with the incident. Both – Russian students studying at the University of Newcastle,” – said the representative of the institution, John Hogan.
One student was arrested in Newcastle, situated in the north-east of England, the other – in London.
Details about the nature of “suspicious objects” found on the territory of campus, not reported. It is known that after the discovery of a university building alarm had been evacuated, the people there. Sappers arrived at the scene, which robotically controlled explosion produced and destroyed items found.
“Police inspected one of the buildings of the University of Newcastle. As a precaution, the building was evacuated, so that items can be removed and examined,” – said Senior Superintendent of Police Newcastle Laura Young.
