ZTE Nubia Red Magic REVIEW & First impressions of New Gaming Smartphone

After Xiaomi Black Shark, another Chinese manufacturer ZTE also introduced its gaming smartphone called Nubia Red Magic. The company is preparing to launch a whole series of products for complete gaming experience.

Let’s review a new gaming smartphone Nubia Red Magic, and see how Nubia want to surprise us.

ZTE Nubia Red Magic: Design

The first product from new gaming series is Nubia Red Magic smartphone. It has 18:9 display, thin body of 6.85 mm, a weight of 185 grams and a metal back panel. Also the backside of Nubia Red Magic has a color bar with up to 16 million colors and four different light effects.

In addition, Nubia also introduced a series of accessories and peripherals, including cases, bags, combat clothing and gaming headsets.

Like Xiaomi Black Shark, Nubia Red Magic also uses different design lines and materials, but also ergonomic and resistant.

The smartphone has bezel-less 6-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. Also there is 3.5 mm headphone jack and a noise canceling microphone. On the left side there are control buttons, while at the bottom is located USB Type-C port.

The design of the rear panel, as already mentioned, is unconventional: four symmetrical red lines are the holes for heat dissipation, the flash and camera are in shape of a diamond; there is another concave diamond under the fingerprint reader.

ZTE Nubia Red Magic: Hardware

As for the hardware, Nubia Red Magic uses a combination of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 + 8GB RAM + 128 GB memory.

ZTE Nubia Red Magic: Battery

The battery capacity is 3800 mAh. This is enough for 7 hours of  continuously playing Arena of Valor.

As for game performance, Nubia Red Magic is better than Xiaomi Black Shark in terms of warm-up time and maximum temperature. The measured temperature difference is about 3 degrees. Four holes on the back panel of Red Magic use air cooling technology + three layers of graphite + a black body (so that the thermal radiation of the body absorbs and transfers heat faster).

Optimization of the game process is excellent: for example, the competitive single button mode guarantees full performance, prevents accidental touches during the game, enables selective notifications, and with 128 adaptations and 79 optimizations, game flexibility is provided.

Red Magic: Сamera

The main camera of Nubia Red Magic has 24 MP (f/1.7) sensor with autofocus and LED flash. Being a gaming smartphone, we would expect photos of medium and low quality; instead we were pleasantly surprised.

Given the overall performance of the camera, such as photo details or results in low light conditions, the overall brightness in the case of HDR lighting is low, but Red Magic is still slightly better than XIaomi Black Shark, especially in the balancing part of White.

ZTE Nubia Red Magic: Сonclusions

Compared to Xiaomi Black Shark, Red Magic is more elegant: it seems to be less of a game console and more of a phone, even if it’s not a “classic phone”.

That’s why we like it, because when the overall performance of the phone is excellent, the game is better, without having to use a dedicated design or device. But this is only our opinion.

The sale price deserves attention: Nubia Red Magic costs $387. Waiting for an official arrival on the market, we can try to get it through a sale on the official website.
