XGIMI H2: Unboxing

The projector is packed in a small white cardboard box. The design of the box is minimalistic. The projector inside is protected by foam rubber.

The accessories are in small cardboard boxes.

There is user manual in Chinese, so you can only undestand something from images. The power adapter has a Chinese plug, but the seller on GearBest added an European adapter, which is very nice. Also, you will get remote control. That’s all! The projector supports different functions, for example, 3D, but you need to buy special 3D glasses additionally.

XGIMI H2: Design

The projector has premium and retro design. The upper, lower and back panels are made of black matte plastic. The grill around the projector body is made of aluminum alloy. It has a persistent silver coating.

The right and left sides look the same, and both of them have ventilation grilles. On the rear panel there are also ventilation grilles, through which heated air is blown out.

With the exception of headphone output, all interfaces are digital. XGIMI H2: Remote Control

The remote control is made of black matte plastic. It is powered by two AAA battery. In general, remote control looks very similar to Xiaomi one. I mean the the buttons position. However, here it is more premium and stylish.

When you press the button, it clicks very soft. The slide switch at the bottom changes the function of the rocker button: from volume to focus.

If you don’t want to use remote control, because it is not very convenient for you, or any other reason, you can connect the keyboard and mouse.

The projector supports wheel scrolling from the mouse. The clicking on the right mouse button cancels the action or return back. We should note that there is a delay of mouse cursor on the screen, but it is not very large.

There are shortcuts on the main screen, and some other additional multimedia functions. In general the user interface of the projector is well optimized for using only remote control. So, it is not necessary to connect the keyboard or the mouse.

Also, you can use XgimiAssistant app on your smartphone to control the projector. The app provides the same functions of remote control, such as on-screen buttons, focus, taking a screenshot from the screen, clear memory and others.

XGIMI H2: Functions

The focal length is fixed and does not change. The lens is equipped with an electromechanical focus drive. There is an auto focus function. You need to toggle the switch on remote control to “Focus”.

The device projects a special mark on the screen, and the front camera monitors its clarity. The result can be manually adjusted from the remote control with a rocker button, a mouse wheel from the home page or using an app on smartphone. The lens is protected by shutter.

If you close the shutter when the projector is running, it will turn off, and if open it, the projector will turn on. The projection is directed upwards, so the lower border of the image is approximately on the axis of the lens. So, if the projector and the screen are placed on the same table, the lower edge of the projection will be slightly higher than the table top.

The several modes for adjusting the size of the projection area will help to fit the image to the projection conditions. However, in most cases, it’s enough to select 16:9 and reset all other settings.

The maximum brightness is 1350 Lumens. In complete darkness, the brightness and contrast of projector provides almost the same image quality as good TV. The contrast is  5000:1, which is very good for DLP projector.

XGIMI H2: User interface

XGIMI H2 projector runs on Android 5.0 operating system with GMUI3.0. The user interface is in Chinese, and there is no option to change the language. The multi-page main screen has only Chinese apps and services. The most interesting page is the last one. It has all installed applications.

The notification panel on the top allows you to quickly switch the video input and provides quick access to connected drives, Bluetooth settings and Wi-Fi. To play multimedia content you can use pre-installed media players, but it’s better to install your favorite one.

The projector has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. Also, you can connect USB flash drives, 2.5″ hard drives and external SSD. But you should note that XGIMI H2 projector supports USB drives with FAT32 and exFAT file systems. The projector detects all files in folders, even if there are a lot of files on the disc.

The projector supports hardware decoding of audio tracks in MP3, DTS, MP1, MP2, WMA formats. Also, it plays video in most popular codecs, for example, H.265 10 bits and 4K resolution.
