Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ruby: Design

The laptop is made of metal. It is available only in dark gray color. Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ruby looks stylish and minimalist, like other Xiaomi laptops.

The top cover has nothing. At first glance it is even difficult to understand the manufacturer of this laptop. Opening it, you will see 15.6-inch IPS display. It has Full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The screen has a brightness of 250 nits and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. The contrast is excellent, and viewing angles are good.

Bezels around the screen are quite thick, but not too large. There is 1MP front camera above the screen. Also, you can see a small Xiaomi logo below the display. This is the only mention of the Chinese manufacturer.

The keyboard is placed in the center, while the keys have a standard size. The touchpad is quite large; its diagonal is 6-inches. A fingerprint scanner is also integrated into the touchpad.

Now let’s look at the side panels. On the right side there is a charging connector, USB 2.0, 3-in-1 card reader and a small LED indicator, which says about battery level. On the left side we can see RJ45 port for Internet connection, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports, and 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The speakers are placed on the bottom, so you will have good sound only if the laptop is on a solid surface.

The build quality of Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ruby is excellent. It looks compact and stylish.

The size of new Xiaomi laptop is 38.20 x 25.35 x 1.99 cm and the weight is only 2.18 kg. As for the package, it is standard here: laptop, compact power adapter and user’s manual.

Now let’s talk about device performance. The laptop is powered by dual-core Intel Core i5-8250U processor and Geforce MX110 graphics. There is also 4GB of RAM type DDR4 and 128GB of internal memory. If you need to increase RAM, there are two slots for memory expansion. One terabyte hard drive is available for additional storage.

The processor provides maximum power efficiency. Yes, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ruby is not a gaming laptop, but you can still run any games on medium graphics settings. It has Windows 10 operating system out of the box.

Mi Notebook Ruby has only 40-watt battery without fast charging support. The laptop battery life is about 6 hours on a single charge with 50% of screen brightness. It should be enough for watching two or three movies on the road.

As for the cooling system, there are two fans and four air vent tubes. The cooling grid is on the bottom.

Talking about sound, it is rather difficult to praise or scold it. The sound is clear even at maximum volume, but it is not enough to fill the room. It’s a good audio system for watching movies and listening to music.

As we said earlier, the laptop has 1MP webcam with a resolution of 720p. Wireless interfaces are available Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands and Bluetooth 4.1.
