Huawei Matebook 13: Design

The laptop looks very elegant; it is completely made of anodized aluminum. There are no plastic elements, except the keyboard. Huawei Matebook 13 is very thin and light. It will be very convenient to carry in a backpack. The weight is only 1.3 kg, while dimensions are 28.60 x 21.10 x 1.49 cm. The build quality is excellent, just as we expect from the flagship laptop.

The laptop comes only in matte silver color. From the other side of display it has Huawei company logo. Opening the laptop, you see 13-inch screen. It looks larger than most other 13-inches laptops, because of the thin bezels around the screen – only 4 mm. We’ll talk about display later.

On the top you can find a front camera and another Huawei logo on the bottom. The bezels around the screen and the keyboard are made in black.

The compact dimensions of laptop did not affect the convenience of the keyboard. The keystrokes are comfortable. Typing is not tiring, while the false presses are extremely rare. Fortunately, the layout is typical, no experiments here.

On the right side above the display is a round power button. It has a built-in fingerprint sensor, which allows you to forget about entering passwords. This will protect your files and data from prying eyes.

The keyboard has backlit. It is very good, but not surprising for flagship Huawei laptop.

There are only three connectors on Huawei Matebook 13. On the right side is one USB Type-C port, while on the left side – another USB Type-C port and 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones.

One of the USB Type-C ports has Thunderbold support. However, like most Windows laptops, you can only charge the laptop with one USB port, and connect peripherals to the other. If you connect the charging cable to the wrong charging port, the message “Connect the laptop to the right port” will appear on the screen.

The touchpad is also quite comfortable. It supports smart gestures and multitouch.

As for the package contents, it is standard here: Huawei Matebook 13 laptop, power adapter, charging cable and user manual. If you need HDMI cable, USB hub, etc., you have to buy these accessories additionally. It reminds me of something! Apple?

Huawei Matebook 13: Display

Probably the biggest advantage of Huawei laptop is display. It is amazing! The device has 13-inch panel with Full HD+ resolution, 2160 by 1440 pixels. It has extremely good color reproduction and details. It seems to me that instead of IPS, the AMOLED panel was used here.

The laptop received an unusual aspect ratio of 3:2. Typically, the manufacturers choose 16:9 aspect ratio for their laptops, but Huawei decided to use 3:2 aspect ratio, and it paid off. The manufacturer claims that the screen occupies 88% of the cover surface area.

Although the screen of Huawei Matebook 13 is glossy, it can be conveniently used outdoors even on sunny days. It has high brightness. The screen automatically adjusts the lighting conditions thanks to the light sensor.

The laptop also has Eye protection function, which reduces the blue color by 30%.

Huawei Matebook 13: Performance

Huawei Matebook 13 has a compact size, but there is a space for the cooling system. Dual fan increases cooling rate by 25 percent. The laptop runs on an energy-efficient quad-core Intel Core i5-8550U processor. There is 8GB of RAM, and you can choose from 256GB or 512GB of SSD drive.

Huawei Matebook 13 laptop runs on Windows 10 operating system. In addition, MateBook 13 is the first laptop with support for Huawei Share 3.0 technology. It allows transferring up to 1000 photos in two accounts from a smartphone. However, the smartphone must be equipped with NFC.

The laptop supports dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz / 5.0 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0.

We don’t see any problems with Huawei laptop. It is quiet and very fast for its specifications and price; it does not heat up in a text editor and while browsing. However, during the heavy games or editing photos, the laptop becomes slightly warm.

The built-in 1 megapixel front camera will be enough for video chatting. As you understand, it is not good for photos/

The quality of the built-in speakers should be discussed separately. Despite the compact body, the sound of Huawei Matebook 13 is very loud, bass and completely devoid of distortion. The speaker is produced by Dolby Atmos. You can watch movies, play games and even listen to music – the sound is excellent.

Huawei Matebook 13: Battery

The battery life of the laptop is also pleased. Huawei Matebook 13 is equipped with 3670mAh battery. The single charge is enough for 10 hours of battery life. In addition, the laptop is equipped with a fast charging function – 15 minutes of charging provides 2.5 hours of battery life. The full battery charge takes about 2.5 hours.

By the way, Huawei Matebook 13 use USB Type-C connector for charging. It means that you can use the same charging cable for laptop and smartphone. You don’t have to carry a lot of cables with you while traveling.

Huawei Matebook 13: Price

Our first review of Huawei Matebook 13 shows that this is a good device in the category of portable laptops. We didn’t find any disadvantages. It is perfect for everyday tasks as well as for heavier ones, like games, editors, etc. Especially it can be useful on business trips and long journeys.

The only thing that confuses is price. You should pay $1440 for the laptop. Yes, it is pretty high price, but Huawei Matebook 13 offers a metal case, a high-quality display, great sound, a new cooling system and Huawei Share 3.0 technology. Expensive, but worth it!
