Nokia 2V First REVIEW: Ultra-Budget Smartphone with NFC

The segment of ultra-budget smartphones will never disappear. The cheapest mobile devices will always be in demand. You can buy ultra-budget smartphone for simple tasks, such as calls, web-surfing, etc.

From other side, budget smartphones often have problems. You have to read many reviews and tests about mobile device before buying it, because it can be terribly bad.

Today we will talk about new smartphone called Nokia 2V. Should you buy this budget device? Let’s find out. Also, we will compare Nokia 2X with Redmi Go, which is a bestseller in many developing many countries.

Nokia 2V: Design

How do you think – can ultra-budget smartphone have good design and high-quality materials? Most likely, no. It’s a pity, but Nokia 2V is no exception. This is a regular smartphone with thick bezels around the display and 16:9 aspect ratio. The phone has completely plastic case.

From other side, Nokia 2V has two speaker grilles on the front panel. It seems that new smartphone offers stereo sound, which is a great feature for budget category.

Nokia 2V: Display

The screen of Nokia 2V is quite large – 5.5-inches. Due to the large bezels, the dimensions of smartphone are also big. For example, the dimensions of Nokia 2V are similar to Galaxy S10 Plus with 6.4-inch bezel-less display. Can you imagine this?

5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, which provides a pixel density of 267 PPI. The image looks detailed and clear. The screen brightness of mobile device is 350 nits, while the contrast – 1200:1, which is very good. Also, reported about protective glass Gorilla Glass.

Nokia 2V: Performance

Obviously, the budget smartphone will get an entry-level chipset, but Nokia 2V has quite good processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 425. It is one of the best processor for budget phones in 2019. The chipset is good for web surfing, simple games and other easy tasks.

There is only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory with microSD support.

From other side, Nokia 4V runs on Android 9 Go, which is significantly reduced version of Android operating system. Therefore, 1GB of RAM for Nokia 2V is the same as 2GB of RAM for Redmi 6A.

Android 9 Go will run even on smartphones with 500MB of RAM. Nokia 2V will have from 500 to 700 MB of free RAM, the other memory will be used for system tasks. We should say that smartphones with 2GB of RAM on stock Android 9.0, MIUI, EMUI or Flyme will have the same amount of free RAM.

As for the internal memory, there isn’t problems. 8GB of storage can be expanded with 32GB memory card.

Perhaps, the main feature of Nokia 2V is NFC. It is very surprising to see NFC in $70 smartphone.

Also, the smartphone supports navigation systems, such as GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou. The device recognizes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n bands at 2.4 GHz. There is also support for Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Direct.

Nokia 2V: Camera

There is no need to talk about cameras for a long time, because they are weak. The main camera has 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.12 microns. It can take pictures in HDR mode.

The front camera has received 5MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. It is good for video calls, but it is not recommended for selfies, especially without excellent lighting.

Nokia 2V: Battery

Another advantage of Nokia 2V is its huge 4000mAh battery. Yes, Snapdragon 425 has an old 28-nanometer process technology, but the screen has HD resolution, so we expect good battery life. The smartphone will work for 2 days on a single charge. By the way, it also supports Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging.

Nokia 2V: Release Date and Price

The smartphone can already be purchased, but only in the United States from Verizon. When it appears in China and Europe, it is not yet known. The price of Nokia 2V is about $70.

Nokia 2V and Redmi Go: Price

So, the basic specifications of smartphone are very similar, but at the same time there are a lot of differences between them.

Let’s start with the price, as there is something incomprehensible. Nokia 2V smartphone can now be purchased only from Verizon for $70. As for Redmi Go, you can buy it for $90 without any programs and commitments. Therefore, you can put an equal sign between smartphones.

Nokia 2V: Pros

4000mAh battery. Taking into account Snapdragon 425 processor, the battery life of smartphone will be 2-3 days;
NFC. Given the crazy popularity of contactless payments, NFC is very good feature;
Stereo sound. The entry-level smartphone has stereo sound. It is amazing!

Redmi Go: Pros

The compact body. It is more convenient to use, than Nokia 2V. For someone, it is really important;
Smaller display. This is not an advantage, but it makes the smartphone compact. Also, Redmi Go has smaller display and the same HD resolution, so the image looks better;
8-megapixel front camera. The resolution of the front camera is not only greater, but also it has better aperture.

Conclusion

Summarizing, we can say that Nokia 2V looks more attractive than Redmi Go. From other side, the smartphone hasn’t gone on sale in China, Europe, India and other countries. It is more difficult to buy right now, than Redmi Go.
