Sailfish OS Update 5 arrives with many new features
La Jolla has released the new Update 5 for Sailfish OS, its operating system based on Linux and heir of MeeGo. The update brings many improvements, adds features previously absent and full compatibility with Android.
Starting from the latter, the runtime of Android has been optimized and is now able to install updates of the app with no problems. It has also made a great effort to improve graphics performance in both 2D and 3D.
Among the many innovations introduced in OS Sailfish, however, are compatible with the synchronization in both directions of the Exchange account, the ability to set an email account as the default, the introduction of compatibility with MMS (before present), l ‘ insertion of the EXIF data and GPS location data in photos taken with the device’s camera, new gesture (eg, to close an app directly), visual cues for interaction with the app and the system and, finally, the sound feedback of the keyboard.
The system progresses and grows. It is, in fact, the right of the first steps; the battle with Android is still very far away and, at the present time, Sailfish OS is a system for geeks for the common user. This does not mean that there is a great potential that can be expressed in the months and years to come, perhaps to annoy the most renowned and well-known systems such as – precisely – Android.
