ThiEYE T5 Pro First REVIEW: Budget 4K Action Camera 2019

In this article we are talking about a new action camera called ThiEYE T5 Pro. About once a year, the Chinese company ThiEYE releases a new camera. As the rule, each new version of action camera has better specifications than the previous one. This is quite logical. Last years we have seen ThiEYE T5e and ThiEYE T5 Edge.

Today we look at specifications and main features of new ThiEYE T5 Pro action camera, and find out how it is better than previous models.

ThiEYE T5 Pro records video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, has wide-angle lens with a viewing angle of 170° and Auto Low Light function, which automatically changes settings depending on lighting. This is not even a complete list of features of the new action camera!

The case of ThiEYE T5 Pro is made of matte plastic, which is very pleasant to the touch. The camera comes only in black with orange details on the body. It seems that the manufacturer has decided not to invent anything new, and use the standard design for action cameras. On the other hand, the build quality is very good.

On the front of ThiEYE T5 Pro is a camera lens. For some reason, the manufacturer decided to highlight it with an orange circle.

Under the lens we can see the inscription – 4K 60 FPS. By the way, thanks to this inscription, the new ThiEYE T5 Pro camera can be distinguished from the previous model ThiEYE T5 Edge. The rest of the design is exactly the same.

On the back is a bright 2-inch LCD display. Let me remind you that the previous ThiEYE T5 Edge camera had IPS screen.

Also on the front panel there is a large power button, ThiEYE logo and two LEDs. The top LED notifies the user that the camera is connected to Wi-Fi, and the bottom LED indicates the battery status.

On the right side you can find two round buttons “Up” and “Down”. They are used to navigating the settings menu.

On the left side is a slot for microSD memory cards. Also, here is installed micro HDMI and microUSB ports.

Another large button is located on the top of the camera. It is used to connect to Wi-Fi network.

As for the bottom edge, here is a battery compartment, as well as 1/4″ thread for a tripod.

ThiEYE T5 Pro is a compact camera. Its dimensions are only 65 x 42 x 23 mm and weight – 77 grams. Thanks to such dimensions, you will not feel the weight of the camera, if you fix it on the helmet, steering wheel or wrist.

ThiEYE T5 Pro: Package Content

The camera comes in a small box, as in the image above. The upper part of the box is made of transparent plastic, which protects the camera from damage. The camera comes in a protective waterproof case.

The package contents include a compact remote control, a battery, a waterproof case, a user manual, a lens cleaning cloth, an additional aqua box cover with holes for recording audio, and a MicroUSB cable for charging.

The package also includes many mounts and accessories for installing an action camera on the wheel of a bicycle or other surfaces.

ThiEYE T5 Pro: Remote control

As for the remote control, it is very small and convenient. The remote has a rectangular shape with rounded edges. Using a soft rubber strap, you can attach it to your hand, so you do not need to constantly remove the camera to start/stop shooting or change the mode. Now you just need to press the necessary button on the remote.

The body of remote control is also made of matte black plastic. It has only three control buttons and LED indicator. Pressing the top button will turn the camera on/off; the central button takes a photo, while the lower button – starts video recording.

The indicator notifies the user about the battery level of the camera. Everything is very simple and convenient!

ThiEYE T5 Pro: Specifications

As we wrote earlier, ThiEYE T5 Pro supports shooting video in 4K resolution, 2.7K resolution and 1080 pixels at 60 or 30 frames per second.

As for the photo, the camera takes photos with a resolution of up to 20MP. This is a very good result for a budget action camera.

The 6-axis gyro ensures that the video will be smooth and clear. It minimizes blurring and shaking while shooting video.

The viewing angle is 170° with a large aperture of F/2.8.

ThiEYE T5 Pro does not have built-in memory, but you can use a microSD memory card up to 128 GB.

The new ThiEYE camera supports 8x zoom. Yes, you can enlarge the image 8 times during the shooting.

Thanks to the waterproof case, the camera can be immersed under water to a depth of 60 meters.

ThiEYE T5 Pro is equipped with a battery capacity of 1100mAh. The previous ThiEYE T5e and T5 Edge cameras had the same batteries, so we expect similar battery life.

ThiEYE T5 Pro: Functions

Now let’s talk about the functions of new ThiEYE action camera.

One of the main features of ThiEYE T5 Pro is Auto Low Light. It automatically changes the settings in the camera settings depending on the lighting during shooting. It is very convenient, for example, during transitions from the street into a dark room. Now you do not need to manually adjust the settings.

If you plan to use ThiEYE T5 Pro camera as DVR, then you should know about one more function. If the action camera is turned off, but connected to the car via a charger, then when you turn the car on, ThiEYE T5 Pro camera turns on automatically and starts recording video.
