UMIDIGI S3 Pro First REVIEW: 48MP Sony Camera – TRUE or FAKE?

In recent years, the main sphere in the development of smartphones are not displays or even processors, but cameras. Dual, triple and even four cameras – we already saw these smartphones. There are even rumors about smartphone with 16 camera sensors. However, as you know the quantity is not always quality.

Samsung introduced two cameras with a resolution of 32MP and 48MP. Sony also released 48 megapixel camera sensor. If there is no information about Samsung photo lens yet, where and when it will appear, then the latest Sony IMX586 sensor is already used in UMIDIGI S3 Pro smartphone.

It is very strange, Sony usually releases its own smartphones with the latest and most advanced sensors. However, this time the Japanese company decided to announce new sensor in Chinese smartphone. We hope that popular Chinese brands, such as Xiaomi, OnePlus and others will also use 48MP camera in their upcoming devices.

UMIDIGI S3 Pro: Camera

The new 46MP sensor from Sony will provide excellent result in both day and night. You can expect amazing photos with low noise and excellent details.

The resolution of 48MP is not the final size of the image, since in low light a special mode called Quad Bayer activated. It provides 4 sub-pixels in 1 pixel. In good lighting, the camera provides all 48-megapixel resolution with the size of one pixel 0.8 microns.

In the evening or in low light conditions, the pixels are combined from 4 to 1. So the resolution is reduced to 12MP, while the pixel size becomes 1.6 μm. This is a very large size for this resolution, since today’s maximum for 12 MP is 1.4 microns.

In addition, the image dynamic range is increased in several times. Sony IMX586 allows you to record video in 4K resolution at 90 fps. There is nothing like this among competitors. UMIDIGI S3 Pro will have the chance to bypass many of its competitors.

UMIDIGI decided to test the new sensor with a high resolution first, but is it worth waiting for high photo results? UMIDIGI is far from the brand that is working hard on the software. As you understand, there is no sense from 48MP sensor without good software optimization.

So, we know UMIDIGI S3 Pro will receive a dual camera, but there is no information about the second sensor yet.

UMIDIGI S3 Pro: Performance

Also, we don’t know about processor. UMIDIGI S2 Pro should be the flagship, so most likely the chipset will be powerful. The smartphone should get the best processor in the first half of 2019 called Snapdragon 8150.

Finally, new UMIDIGI smartphone will get 5150mAh battery. It sounds very impressive. All these specifications and features can make from not-so-popular UMIDIGI one of the best Chinese manufacturers. There are already many UMIDIGI fans, but soon there will be much more.

UMIDIGI S3 Pro: Release Date and Price

There is no information about release date and price of UMIDIGI S2. Moreover, we haven’t evidence that UMIDIGI really use new sensor from Sony. Perhaps, it is only an advertisement from the Chinese brand, just like it was with Lenovo Z5.

UMIDIGI S3 Pro may have the most common sensor with 12 or 16-megapixels resolution with interpolation in four or three times, respectively.

However, all this is only rumors. We will learn the truth only after release of UMIDIGI S3 Pro.
