Vivo iQOO First REVIEW: Monster Inside A Smartphone! Xiaomi Mi 9 Killer?

Xiaomi popularity does not give rest to other smartphone manufacturers, including Vivo. Although Vivo is still more popular brand in China, than Xiaomi, it produces competitors to Xiaomi flagships. Yesterday, Vivo released a new series of smartphone, and its new phone called Vivo IQOO. The design of new smartphone completely copies Xiaomi Mi 9. This is very strange, because usually Xiaomi copies other manufacturers.

If the last year the notch above the display was very popular, then today waterdrop notch and triple camera are the main trend. So, let’s make first review of Vivo iQOO, and find out its main differences compared to Xiaomi Mi 9.

Design

We would like to say something interesting about the design of Vivo IQOO, but there is nothing fascinating about it. This is just a copy of Xiaomi Mi 9, only in the new case colors.

The main feature of Vivo new smartphone is LED strip on the back. It glows in various colors and can be customized to your taste. Also, we should say about touch buttons on the left side of smartphone. They can be used when playing in landscape mode.

Display

As for the screen, everything is also very clear and obvious here. The smartphone has 6.41-inch display with AMOLED panel and Full HD+ resolution.

Even the fingerprint sensor under the screen is not surprising. In 2019, most flagships and even mid-range phones have this feature.

Since the display of Vivo new smartphone is bezel-less, it has 92% of screen to body ratio, which is great.

Vivo iQOO: Performance

Vivo iQOO Monster is a flagship smartphone, so it received the latest and the most powerful chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 855.

Also, this is gaming smartphone, so the Chinese company decided not to limit itself to advanced features. First of all, the smartphone has liquid cooling system. It uses evaporation chamber + tubes.

Secondly, Vivo IQOO has AI features, such as AI Turbo. It increases the apps speed by 30%. Center Turbo increases the frame rate by 73%. Game Turbo is responsible for maximum fps in games.

There is also Net Turbo technology. Its main task is to ensure the fastest and high quality Internet connection. Oh, we forgot about Cooling Turbo. It is not difficult to guess why it is needed.

Vivo iQOO has a lot of memory. The basic model is equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. Also, you can buy a  8GB+128 GB model or even 8GB+256GB. However, the most advanced version received 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

For comparison, Galaxy S10 Plus has a version with 12GB of RAM, but its price $1300!

Vivo IQOO is real monster in benchmarks. It scores 406958 points in AnTuTu. Perhaps, this is the best result among all phones on Snapdragon 855.

If you are using contactless payments, then you will be glad NFC inside Vivo iQOO. Also, there is USB Type-C port.

iQOO Monster: Cameras

As for the cameras, the smartphone is not very impressed. Yes, Vivo iQOO has a triple rear camera, but there are no flagships sensors.

The smartphone is equipped with 12 megapixel Sony IMX353 main sensor. We think you already know about this sensor, because it is already used in Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 8 Lite, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. The sensor is good, but not the newest.

The secondary sensor has 13MP resolution and wide-angle lens up to 120 degrees. The third camera is used for bokeh effect. It is only 2MP.

If we compare Vivo IQOO with Xiaomi Mi 9, then Xiaomi smartphone looks much better. It offers 48 megapixel sensor from Sony, 12 megapixel sensor from Samsung and another 16 megapixels from Sony for taking wide angle photos of 117 degrees.

Among interesting features of Vivo IQOO is SuperHDR mode.

Vivo iQOO: Battery

From other side, Vivo iQOO looks better than Xiaomi Mi 9 in battery category. The smartphone is equipped with 4000mAh battery. However, this is not even the main feature.

Vivo new phone supports 44W fast charging. WOW! Just imagine: it takes only 15 minutes to charge from 0 to 50%, and 45 minutes – from 0 to 100%.

Vivo IQOO has long battery life and super-fast charging.

We forgot to say about operating system. The smartphone runs on Android 9.0 Pie with FunTouch user interface. Perhaps, this is another drawback of Vivo IQOO, because FunTouch UI is not pleased with stability, pleasant design. Its imperfection can scare many people from buying the smartphone.

Vivo iQOO: Release Date and Price

The sales start of Vivo IQOO will begin on March 6 in China. At home, the smartphone will cost as follows:

  • 6GB+128GB version without 44W fast charging (only 22W) – from $447;
  • 8GB+128GB – from $492;
  • 8GB+256GB – from $537;
  • 12GB+256 GB – from $640.

As you can see, the prices are very good and affordable. The main question – which smartphone will be more popular – Vivo iQOO or Xiaomi Mi 9?
