Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 will cost twice as much as its predecessor

Xiaomi is about to introduce its new flagship smartphone Mi 6. But it is not the only new device that the Chinese manufacturer was preparing to show these days. Noiselessly, the company announced the release of new virtual reality headset named Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2. It received an updated design and new higher-quality materials of the case.

Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2: Design

First VR headset from Xiaomi – Xiaomi Mi VR – was announced in August last year. Device of new generation is radically different. Direct angles and a variety of colors remained in the past. Now the design is dominated by rounded forms and smooth lines. The only available color is black. Like the previous model, Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 is able to take onboard smartphones with a screen diagonal from 4.7 to 5.7 inches. The larger devices no longer fit into the VR headset entirely and their corners stick outward.

Together with the shape of VR headset, the materials have changed. The body, as before, is made of plastic, but its surface is trimmed with elastic cotton cloth, which Xiaomi calls “dragon cloth”. The only strap that fixes Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 to the user’s head is made of durable nylon. In general, the design Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 is reminiscent of Google Daydream View, but of course there is no blatant plagiarism.

Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2: Price and release date

The Weigh Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 is 183 grams. It is 25 grams lighter than its predecessor. Unfortunately, the lighter body and improved materials resulted in a noticeable price increase. If the original Xiaomi Mi VR Play price at the time of the announcement was only $7, then for the new model, customers will have to pay twice as much – $14. The beginning of sales is scheduled for April 19.
