Doogee Y8 First REVIEW: Forget About Redmi Go!
Doogee started the new 2019 with budget smartphone. The Chinese manufacturer announced ultra-budget smartphone under $100 called DOOGEE Y8.
The smartphone is from budget series Y, which was born in 2016. All phones in Y series have modern design, good specifications and affordable price. Doogee Y8 continued the previous generations, but it received significantly different design from its predecessors.

In this article we will review the technical specifications of Doogee Y8, and compare it with Doogee Y6 and Doogee Y7.

Doogee Y8: Design
Doogee Y8 is an interesting budget smartphone, especially at the start of 2019, while most companies are sleeping. If you think that in the new year Doogee company has prepared something extraordinary for us, then you are mistaken.
Before us is the same budget phone from 2016-2018, only in a new appearance. The design of DOOGEE Y8 is really attractive. The front panel of the smartphone has a large screen with rather thick bezels around.
Display occupies only 79% of front panel. However, there is waterdrop notch, which is popular in 2019.
Doogee logo is located both on the front panel and on the back. The main camera of the smartphone is dual. It protrudes from the body on a few millimeters. Also, two sensors are separated by LED flash.
The fingerprint scanner is located in the center of the back of Doogee Y8. Everything is standard with control buttons – there are no surprises.
Doogee Y8 has plastic case. The display is protected by the glass from an unknown manufacturer. The new budget smartphone is available in three color options: black, blue and dark green.
Doogee Y8: Display
The screen of Doogee Y8 is quite large – 6.1-inches. This is IPS panel. From other side, the resolution is rather weak – 1280×600 pixels, 232 PPI. This is not enough for such a large screen.
If you go to Doogee Y8 after a smartphone with Full HD display, you will feel some discomfort. Looking closely, you will definitely get to the pixel image.
Doogee Y8: Performance
The smartphone is powered by quad-core processor from MediaTek. It was specifically designed for budget smartphones.
MediaTek 6739 is a quad-core 64-bit processor, built on 28-nm process technology. It is based on four productive Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz. MT6739 chipset uses a PowerVR GE8100 graphics accelerator. It is based on the well-known Rogue architecture.
The main advantage of the processor is support of full view displays with 18:9 aspect ratio. Together with 3GB of RAM, the smartphone scores 40.000 points in AnTuTu. This is an excellent result for a budget smartphone.
The disadvantages of DOOGEE Y8 is a small amount of internal memory – only 16GB. Fortunately, it can be expanded with a memory card.
Doogee Y8: Battery
The battery is also not exciting – only 3400mAh. There is no wireless and fast charging support.
However, Doogee Y8 was lucky to get the latest Android operating system – Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
Doogee Y8: Camera
The new Doogee smartphone has dual 8MP + 5MP camera on the back. The front camera uses 8MP sensor. The manufacturer have focus on sensitivity, ceasing to chase megapixels.
In theory, the Doogee Y8 should shoot well in the evening. However, it’s too early to talk about its camera performance – we need to wait for the smartphone to go on sale.

Doogee Y8, Doogee Y6 and Doogee Y7
The first smartphone of Y series appeared in 2016. Doogee Y6 was and still is a good smartphone: a standard battery, nice design, dual SIM, a screen with HD resolution. What else is needed from ultra-budget smartphone?
In 2018, the Chinese manufacturer released Doogee Y7. What have we got? New design, but the specifications are almost the same. Also, there is even a downgrade – Spreadtrum SC9863A onboard the Doogee Y7, which is almost a death sentence, since the chipset heats up terribly and throttles.
In 2019, we will receive Doogee Y8, and nothing has changed. Yes, the design was updated, but the performance remained at the same level as in 2016.
We can conclude that Doogee Y8 is a smartphone for Android beginners, such as children or old people. It is extremely difficult to recommend this smartphone to buy. However, we still believe that it is better than Xiaomi Redmi Go.
